Xiaomi unveils new mid-range Mi 4i smartphone

First sale launches in India

After Xiaomi’s livestream event yesterday, the much rumoured Mi 4i smartphone is here. The new mid-range smartphone is styled similar to it’s higher end sibling Mi Note but albeit more colourful, an uncanny resemblance to the iPhone 5C.

Mi 4i features the same 5″ display full HD screen resolution as its predecessor, a Snapdragon 615 processor though many are saying it’s a step back from a previously more powerful 801 chip. There’s 16GB storage built in though it’s puzzling Xiaomi doesn’t include other storage options or micro-SD expandability. The rear camera gets a dual-tone flash but again seems like a downgrade in terms of aperture – from f/1.8 to the current f/2.0.

The new phone will also run the latest MIUI 6.0 based off Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop. Battery gets a slight boost to 3120mAh and the Mi 4i will now support 4G networks. The sale will kickstart in Flipkart, India’s largest marketplace, for ₹12,999 (est ~S$274.84) but we have no doubts the Mi 4i will make its way here into Singapore soon.
