“Fight for Gotham City as the heroes or work alone as the villain in a miniatures boardgame”. If this sentence gets you all excited, then you need to take a look at this boardgame on Kickstarter.
Created by Monolith Board Games, Batman: Gotham City Chronicles (GCC) is a 2 to 4 player scenario-based miniature boardgame where one of the players take the role of the villain and controls the criminals of Gotham City. The remaining players take control of the heroes and work together in co-op manner to foil the villain’s plots.
Batman: GCC is an open and asymmetrical game system where two sides face off, pitting strategies against each other.
What makes Batman: GCC unique is it comes in two core boxes, meaning there will be lots of contents and lots of replayability. The ability to take the villain’s side opens up the game to a different experience as well.
Batman: GCC will not be available for retail and will only be exclusively available on a one-time Kickstarter campaign. According to the company, the amount of work, high-quality components, and the license cost will make the game hard to sell in retail since it will cost 2 – 3 times more than the Kickstarter price.
Pre-order for the base game which includes a copy of Batman: GCC and all Unlocked Stretch Goals will cost US$140 before shipping.
The All-in Edition which comes with the base game, Unlocked Stretch Goals, three expansion packs, one dice pack and a Batmobile add-on will set you back by a whopping US$320.
At that price, if you are a hardcore DC comic fan, we still believe it’s totally worth it even as a collectable.
