All aboard the Doraemon VR roller coaster ride at the Universal Studios Japan in Osaka
While tourist numbers are dwindling around the world, Universal Studios in Japan in Osaka is still coming up with themed attractions and rides to woo local residents to their theme park.
Stand by Me Doraemon 2
Originally slated to release in cinemas this month, the 3D animated sequel Stand by Me Doraemon 2 has since been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. Universal Studios Japan, however, decided to carry on with promoting it.
The main highlight is a “STAND BY ME Doraemon 2” XR high-speed roller coaster ride equipped with special VR goggles.
According to the description, fans will be able to experience a secret tour of Nobita and Shizuka’s future wedding via a future vehicle Time Scooter.
There’s also a promotional video explaining the ride.
Even the entrance to attraction section in the theme park is decorated with a giant Doraemon and his gadgets including the Takecopter and Time Machine.
So Instagrammable.
Doraemon-themed Food
Besides the ride, there are also Doraemon-themed mains and desserts to enjoy at the Studio Stars Restaurant.
There’s even a cake dessert with Doraemon halfway into the Pass Loop gadget.
Look out for food carts at the theme park selling Doraemon Popcorn Bucket with the Anywhere Door gadget.
There’s also a collectible Doraemon tumbler and dumplings with designs inspired by the characters in the movie you won’t bear to eat.

Exclusive Doraemon Merchandise
Doraemon lovers will also be able to pick up exclusive Doraemon merchandise at the Space Fantasy Station including t-shirts, souvenirs, mugs and more.
The Stand by Me Doraemon event in Universal Studios Japan will be held till 6 January 2021 so there’s still might be chance to head over once leisure travel opens up between Singapore and Japan.
