Giant Planetary Lanterns that light up the night have taken over this museum’s lawn in Balestier

Giant lanterns representing planets light up the lawn at night in Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall

Here’s a unique lantern experience you can find in Balestier this mid-autumn festival.

Celestial Bodies Lantern Installation

Titled “Celestial Bodies“, giant lantern installations have lined up in the open space lawn area in front of Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (晚晴园).

It pays tribute to the moon which is the most prominent astronomical body on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar.

The installation features Moon, Earth, Sun, Saturn, and Mercury in adorable characters and represents the collective wish of Singaporeans to be able to get together and reunite with loved ones both locally and overseas, especially during this period when pandemic measures have eased.

It is created by Taiwan’s Kai 3D Art Studio in collaboration with the museum.

Yes, it even glows at night.

Perfect opportunity for little ones to learn more about about our planetary system while celebrating the mid-autumn festival.

There will be photo opportunities with the cute spherical lanterns so bring your best cameras along.

There’s no restriction on how visitors and kids can play and interact with the lanterns.

So fun.

Besides marvelling at the giant lanterns installation, the museum has also lined up a number of activities and workshops to celebrate the Chinese arts, culture and heritage during this period which include live performances, story-telling sessions, heritage walking tours and more.
