H&M will be closing down its ION Orchard store in S’pore on 12 March
Another one bites the dust – this time from Sweden-based fast-fashion giant H&M.

H&M Singapore has just announced it will be closing down its store in ION Orchard with the last day on 12 March (Sun) later next month. This comes after shutting down stores in Tampines and Punggol in the previous few years.
If we had to guess, its closure is likely due to rising costs and fierce competition from Japanese fashion retailer UNIQLO which currently has 28 stores islandwide. Another reason might be H&M Singapore wants to consolidate resources to focus on the larger 4-storey store in Orchard Building.
With the closure of the ION Orchard outlet, the number of H&M stores in Singapore will be reduced to 8, although it’s unclear if the company will be opening new stores elsewhere since it states “We’ll meet in other places.” and “New beginning awaits!” in their announcement.
The move isn’t that surprising since according to reports last year, H&M has plans to close as many as 240 stores around the world, with most closures happening in established markets.
You can still shop at H&M online or visit these malls to find their stores here: Serangoon Nex, PLQ Mall, Kallang Wave Mall, Suntec City, VivoCity, Orchard Building, United Square, and Jem.
Closing Down Sales?
Perhaps what’s brewing on most shoppers’ minds is whether H&M will be holding a moving-out sale of some sort nearer to the closure date. We will be monitoring their updates closely (sorry!) for sure so stay tuned.
