The iconic Merlion statue situated in Merlion Park will be undergoing maintenance work soon.
Covered in Scaffolding
According to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the main 8.5-metre-tall Merlion statue will be covered in scaffolding with barricades around it while being repaired for around 3 months from 25 September to 13 December this year.
The hiatus means there will be no photo-taking for the public during the repair period.
Last year, our beloved national mascot celebrated 50 years with a special light-up party around the same period.

As to why it had to go for a long maintenance period, it is likely due to large cracks that appeared on the rear of the statue which was reported by visitors sometime in July earlier this year.
You can also get a closer look at the cracks from the video below.
There have been speculations as to why the cracks appeared which could have been due to a lightning strike or thunderstorms and worries of it crumbling if no repairs are being done.
Meanwhile, the smaller Merlion cub statue at the Merlion Park remains available for selfies according to STB.
Do take note if you are planning to head down.
